Diet and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
December 16, 2015
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death globally and in the US. Over 120,000 people die of COPD ever year in the US. It is not just a smoker disease, 10-20% of COPD patients have never smoked (View COPD Fact Sheet).
IPS is dedicated to finding new ways to prevent, treat, and cure Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. A new and inexpensive method of preventing death from COPD is by controlling your diet. A series of studies on diet and COPD mortality has shown that an increase in eating fruits may lower the risk of death associated with COPD. “After adjustment for country, age and smoking, a 100g increase in fruit intake was associated with a 24% lower COPD mortality risk.”
